During the three days from May 14 to 16 the celebratory events of the Holy Metropolitanates of the Church of Greece are continued in honour of the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution of 1821.

Specifically :

On Friday, Saturday and Sunday, May 14-16 :

The Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis organizes a Scholarly Conference on the topic “The National Struggle of 1821 for Liberation and what the holy clergy of Phthiotis offered to it”. The Conference will be carried out from Friday, May 14 to Sunday, May 16, 2021 in the Auditorium of the Cultural-Administrative Centre of the Holy Metropolitanate (Megalou Alexandrou and Agraphon streets, Lamia) with no public because of the restrictive health measures.

The Conference, which is under the auspices of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, will be declared open by HB Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens, who will be arriving in Lamia on Friday afternoon. The former President of the Hellenic Republic and Professor Emeritus of the University of Athens, Mr Prokopios Pavlopoulos, will be the keynote speaker during the first day of the Conference, following an invitation by Most Rev. Metropolitan Symeon of Phthiotis.
The culmination of the Conference has been planned for Sunday, May 16, 2021 with the Polyarchieratical Synodic Divine Liturgy, which will be performed on Sunday morning at 7 a.m. in the Holy Cathedral of the Annunciation of the Mother of God in Lamia.

On Sunday, May 16 :

The Holy Metropolitanate of Monemvassia and Sparta will honour the memory of Ananias, Martyr of the Nation, Bishop of Lacedemonia. An Archieratical Divine Liturgy will be performed in the Holy Cathedral of the Evanghelistria (i.e., lady bringer of good tidings, in Greek) in Sparta, with Most Rev. Metropolitan Eustathios of Monemvassia and Sparta officiating. Subsequently, a Memorial Prayer will be chanted before the bust of the Martyr of the Nation, which is in the courtyard of the Cathedral. In the afternoon of the same day a public lecture will be delivered in memory of the Martyr of the Nation in the courtyard of the Primary School of Mystras.

The Holy Metropolitanate of Cassandreia will honour the anniversary of the declaration of the Revolution of 1821 in Halkidiki by Emmanuel Pappas. An Archieratical Divine Liturgy and a Doxology will be performed in the Holy Cathedral of Saint Nicholas of Polyghyros, with Most Rev. Metropolitan Nicodemos of Cassandreia officiating. Following the Doxology, Professor Demetrios Papazis of the High Ecclesiastical Academy of Thessaloniki will speak of the historical events.


In all the events all the health measures stipulated for the protection from the pandemic are observed.
