On the occasion of the celebration of the bicentenary of the beginning of the Greek Revolution, in continuation of the implementation of the anniversary events planned, the Holy Metropolitanate of Messenia participates in the celebratory events of the Region of the Peloponnese and the Municipality of Pylos – Nestor in honour of the 194th anniversary of the naval battle of Navarino, which this year are under the auspices of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece.

The events will be held in the town of Pylos, on Wednesday, October 20, 2021, with HE the President of the Hellenic Republic Ms Aekaterini Sakellaropoulou and Most Rev. Metropolitan Constantinos of Megara and Salamis as representative of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece attending.

In the morning of the same day a Solemn Doxology will be performed in the holy church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Pylos, with Most Rev. Metropolitan Constantinos of Megara and Salamis officiating in his capacity of representative of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece and Most Rev. Metropolitans Ignatios of Demetrias and Almyros and Chryssostomos of Messenia co-officiating.

Subsequently, a Trisaghion will be performed for those fallen in the naval battle of Navarino, with Most Rev. Metropolitan Chryssostomos of Messenia officiating before the Memorial on the Three Admirals’ Square of Pylos, wreaths will be laid, and the solemn address of the day will be delivered by the keynote speaker, Most Rev. Metropolitan Ignatios of Demetrias and Almyros, Chairman of the Synodic Committee of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece on Cultural Identity.
