On Saturday, October 2, 2021, in the Hall of Events of the Cultural Centre of the Holy Metropolitanate in Nafpaktos, the 7th Theological Conference of the Metropolitanate was held on the general topic “The ecclesiastical tradition in the texts and works of pioneers of the 1821 Independence”.

In the morning a Divine Liturgy was performed in the Holy Cathedral of Saint Demetrios, while at the opening of the Conference a Choir of cantors of the Holy Metropolitanate chanted topical hymns.

The Conference itself was declared open by Most Rev. Metropolitan Ierotheos of Nafpaktos and Saint Vlassios, who also read out a message from HB Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and all Greece.

Political and local government dignitaries addressed the audience and then Greek academics presented their papers on subjects such as the personalities of Nektarios Terpos, Constantinos Economos, Ioannis Capodistrias, Theodoros Kolokotronis, Yannis Makriyannis, and aspects of their works, as well as the folk song and other less known memoir writers. Overall, the focus of study was the ecclesiastical – Roman tradition of the specific protagonists of the National Uprising, which also echoes the multitude of the pioneers to whom we owe our freedom.
