The 31st and 32nd anniversary events planned by the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis for the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution of 1821 took place successfully and in the presence of Most Rev. Metropolitan Symeon of Phthiotis. The 31st anniversary event was carried out in the courtyard of the Holy Monastery of Dadi, co-organised by the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis and the Municipality of Amphikleia-Elateia. The priest of Amphikleia and Archieratical Commissioner of the area, Protopresbyter Father Diomedes Panaghiotopoulos, together with residents of Amphikleia, young and older, in a touching drama event directed by Ms Vicky Koukoutsidi and with Mr Ioannis Vrettos, educator and poet, as narrator, conducted a reconstruction of the Battle of Dadi.

The 32nd anniversary event was carried out in the Hall of the Museum of the Holy Monastery of Agathon on the topic “Learning and letters in the years of the Turkish Rule”. Papers were delivered by scholars and a concert of traditional songs was performed by students of the “Ghermanos the Melodist” Conservatoire and the Traditional Orchestra of the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis.

A reminder regarding the following events to take place in the days to come as planned by the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis within the framework of the celebrations for the anniversary of the commencement of the Greek Revolution of 1821:

  • On Sunday, August 15, 2021, at 11h, following the Solemn Archieratical Divine Liturgy, the 34th anniversary event on the topic “Odysseus Androutsos, Fighter of the Revolution”, in the courtyard of the holy church of the Dormition of the Theotokos of Tithorea (Velitsa);
  • On Monday, August 16, 2021, at 20h, the 35th anniversary event on the topic “The faith of the rebelling Greeks in BVM”, in the courtyard of the Holy Monastery of BVM of Damasta;
  • On Friday, August 20, 2021, at 20h, the 36th anniversary event on the topic “The touring and preaching work of Saint Cosmas of Aetolia across the enslaved Greece”, in the holy church of Saint George of Makrakomi;
  • On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at 10h30, following the Solemn Archieratical Divine Liturgy, the 37th anniversary event on the topic “Saint Cosmas of Aetolia, teacher of the Nation”, in the holy church of Saint Cosmas of Aetolia in the social housing area of Nea Magnesia, Lamia;
  • On Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 21h30, in the “Saint Catherine” camping centre of the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis, the 38th anniversary event on the topic “In the footsteps of Father Cosmas. An approach through a drama performance with music and dancing”;

On Thursday, August 26, 2021, at 10h, in the Vassilika site, in Reghini, a Memorial Service for those fallen in the Battle of Vassilika on August 26, 1821. Subsequently, at 20h45, wreaths to be laid before the Memorial in honour of those fallen, in the courtyard of the historic church of BVM in Reghini; at 21h15, the 39th anniversary event of the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis in cooperation with the Municipality of Kamena Vourla, on the topic “The Battle of Vassilika”.
