In order to highlight the events of the Revolution, the ideas that underpinned it, the conditions that favoured its organization and outbreak as well as the messages the Revolution can offer to today’s Greeks, the young in particular, who are tested by the adverse manifestations of the manifold crisis, the Holy Metropolitanates of the Church of Greece carry out events of religious and scholarly content, so that we may honour and celebrate the memory of all those who fell for freedom defending faith and fatherland.

The detailed timetable from March 17 to 21, 2021

On Wednesday, March 17, the President of the Hellenic Republic, Ms Aekaterini Sakellaropoulou, attended the events for the commemoration of the declaration of the Revolution in Areopolis of Mani, Peloponnese. The Doxology was sung in the historical Holy Church of the All-Greatest Taxiarchs in Areopolis, with Most Rev. Metropolitan Chryssostomos of Mani presiding.

On Thursday, March 18, an online lecture was delivered by Most Rev. Metropolitan Panteleimon of Veroia, Naoussa and Campania, within the series of lectures under the general title “Blood of Martyrs”. It was broadcast at 19h00 from the website, Facebook, YouTube of the Holy Metropolitanate and from the “Pauline Word” radio station of the Holy Metropolitanate at 90.2FM.

  • The Holy Metropolitanate of Messenia will organize an online Scholarly One-day Conference on the subject of “The culture of the few and the virtue of the many”. The event will be broadcast on the channel of the Holy Metropolitanate on Youtube.
  • On the same day, the Holy Metropolitanate of Lemnos and Saint Eustratios will organize an online event at 18h30 on the topic “The part played by the institution of community of the Orthodox during the period of the Ottoman Rule until the Protocol on the Independence of the Greek State (London 1830). Cultural aspects of an interreligious meeting”.
    The speaker will be Mr Christos Patsis, philologist and theologian.

  • Also on Saturday the Holy Metropolitanate of Messogaia and Lavreotiki organizes an online youth meeting on the topic: “On the feast day of the Virgin Mary and of the Fatherland”. The event will symbolically begin at 18h21 and will be broadcast on the website of the Holy Metropolitanate.

  • The Holy Metropolitanate of Kalavryta and Aighialeia will perform an Archieratical Divine Liturgy in Kalavryta (Holy Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God) for the bicentenary of the liberation of the town in 1821.
