On November 11, 2021, a working meeting was held in the “Elli Pappas” Hall of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs on the subject of setting up Panhellenic School Competitions in accordance with the Partnership Agreement between the General Secretariat of Religious Affairs and the Special Synodic Committee of the Church of Greece on Cultural Identity.

The Secretary General of Religious Affairs Mr Gheorghios Kalantzis attended the meeting on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs, assisted by the staff of the relevant service of the Ministry. Most Rev. Metropolitan Vartholomaios of Polyani and Kilkission attended on behalf of the Church of Greece representing the President of the Special Synodic Committee Most Rev. Metropolitan Ignatios of Demetrias and Almyros, the new Secretary of the Committee Father Damaskenos Petrakos and the member of the Committee, Mr Constantine Holevas.

In the meeting the preconditions for the new Panhellenic School Competition of short films (of up to 6 mins) for pupils of the 2nd and 1st grades of junior high-school for the school year 2021-2022, on the subject of “MEMORIES FROM ASIA MINOR – PONTUS: 1922-2022”.

The personalities proposed by the joint steering committee of the Church and the State as sources of inspiration and subjects for this competition are the following:

  • Saint Helen
  • Saint Chryssostomos of Smyrna, Martyr of the Nation
  • Photis Contoglou
  • Ghiorgos Seferis
