This week too the Synodic and peripheral events of the Church of Greece for the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution of 1821 are continued.

Specifically:

Friday, July 9:

In cooperation with the Municipality of Kallithea, at 20:45, in the courtyard of the 4th High-school of Kallithea (175, Eleftherios Venizelos (formerly Theseus) Ave.), next to the holy church of Saint Nicholas, the Music Foundation of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens will present a concert of traditional music under the title “Clergy and lay personalities who fought, struggles or sacrificed themselves for the preparation and the Fight for Freedom in Greece and Europe”.

Artistic care of the programme: GHiannis Pavlopoulos, OR.I.M.A.A. Orchestra of the Music Foundation of HAA, Conductor: Stella Valassi. The concert will be presented by the Director General of the Music Foundation, Archimandrite Father Eirenaios Nakos, who will also participate in it artistically.


Saturday, July 10:

The Holy Metropolitanate of Sissanion and Siatista will honour the 150 years of operation of the historical high school of Tsotyli by means of an Archieratical Divine Liturgy, to be performed in the holy church of the town, with Most. Rev. Metropolitan Athanassios of Sissanion and Siatista officiating. In the evening, at 19h, an online one-day conference dedicated to Saint Cosmas the Aetolian will be organised, with Prof. Emeritus Michael Tritos, former Dean of the Faculty of Theology, and Mr Elias Moglenidis, researcher, historian and doctoral candidate of the same Faculty, participating as speakers.

In cooperation with the Metropolitan Academy of Theological and Historical Studies of the Holy Meteora, the Holy Metropolitanate of Stagoi and Meteora, from 10h to 14h will organise a scholarly one-day conference on the topic “Meteora and the Revolution of 1821: Testimonies from the years of the Turkish Rule”.  

The conference will be carried out in the Exhibition Centre of the Municipality of Kalambaka and Most Rev. Metropolitan Theokletos of Stagoi and Meteora will declare its closure.

Sunday, July 11:

Under the auspices of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, the Holy Metropolitanate of Karystia and Skyros and the Municipality of Kymi and Aliveri will organise a festive event on the topic “The glory of the heroes from Karystia”.

This celebratory event will begin with an Archieratical Joint Liturgy in the holy church of Aghia Triada of Krieza, with Most Rev. Metropolitan Serapheim of Karystia and Skyros officiating and the Most Rev. Metropolitans Nicandros of Eirenoupolis and Chryssostomos of Halkis, and His Grace Bishop Philotheos of Oreoi, co-officiating,

Subsequently at 11h a Trisagion will be performed and wreaths will be laid before the memorial of the hero Nikolaos Kriezotis. At 11:15 a one-day conference of honour and memory will follow, with public lectures and a music programme at the end. His Grace Bishop Philotheos of Oreoi, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, will read out a message from the Holy Synod for the occasion.

The event will be broadcast online from the www.ekklisia1821.gr και  www.e­c­c­l­e­s­i­a­tv.gr websites.

The Holy Metropolitanate of Mytilini will honour the memory of the late Metropolitan Ignatios of Hungary-Wallachia for his contribution to the Greek Revolution. At 19h30 Most Rev. Metropolitan Iakovos of Mytilini will perform a Memorial Service before the bust of the late Metropolitan in Mytilini. Subsequently, a public lecture on that historical personality will be delivered by Protopresbyter Father Athanassios Ghiousmas.

The Holy Metropolitanate of Sissanion and Siatista will honour the local fighters. An Archieratical Divine Liturgy and a Memorial Service will be performed in the holy church of Saint Demetrios of Siatista for the rest of their souls, followed by a veneration of the Iron Cross of Saint Cosmas the Aetolian.

On the island of Ithaca, in cooperation with the Municipality of Ithaca, the Holy Metropolitanate of Lefkas and Ithaca will honour the 200 years of the Greek Revolution, in conjunction with the annual celebration of the translation of the holy relics of Saints Raphael of Ithaca, Nikolaos and Irene, who became martyrs on the island of Lesvos in 1463, suffering the vengeful rage of the Turks following the failed revolt which had broken out on the island, the first after the Fall of Constantinople, as suspects for involvement in the revolt.

From the evening of Saturday to the evening of Sunday, holy Services will be performed with Most Rev. Metropolitan Theophilos of Lefkas and Ithaca officiating and Archimandrite Father Vartholomaios Antoniou-Triantaphyllides, Secretary of the Synodic Committee on Cultural Identity, will read out a message from the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece for the occasion. At 20h30 a lecture on the late Metropolitan Evghenios Karavias of Anchialos from Ithaca, Holy Martyr of the Nation, will be delivered by Archimandrite Father Ioannikios Zambelis, Hieropreacher of the Holy Metropolitanate of Lefkas and Ithaca.

Monday, July 12:

At 20h the Holy Metropolitanate of Paronaxia has planned an anniversary event in the courtyard of the Holy Metropolitan Cathedral of Zoodochos Peghe of Naxos, with Very Rev. Protopresbyter Father Odysseas Kyrossimos as keynote speaker about the late Metropolitan Ierotheos Aristarchou of Paronaxia and his contribution to the Greek Revolution.
