This week too the Synodic and peripheral events of the Church of Greece in honour of the bicentenary of the outset of the Greek Revolution are continued.

Specifically:

Friday, September 24, 2021 

_The Holy Metropolitanate of Mantineia and Kynouria will honour the capture of Tripolis (Tripoliçe), which took place on September 23, 1821. At 19h in the Square of Mars, an event will be held under the title “From the Fall of Constantinople to the Capture of Tripoliçe” with Most Rev. Metropolitan Alexandros of Mantineia and Kynouria introducing it. The Byzantine and the Traditional Choirs of the Metropolitanate as well as the Folklore Hearth of Tripolis will participate.

_In the Cultural Centre of the holy church of our Lady BVM of Lamia at 20h the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis organises an anniversary event on the subject “Zitouni in the years of the Turkish Rule and the Revolution”.

_In the Holy Monastery of Myrtidia at 17h the Holy Metropolitanate of Kythera and Antikythera organises a Scholarly One-day Conference on the subject “The contribution of Kytherians to the Struggle for our National Palingenesia of 1821”, with Greek academics delivering papers and Most Rev. Metropolitan Serapheim of Kythera and Antikythera and the Mayor addressing the audience.

_In cooperation with the Municipality of Mykonos at 21h15 the Holy Metropolitanate of Syros a theatrical performance in the Grypareion Cultural Centre of Mykonos. The title of the play will be “Mado Mavroghenous the heroine of Mykonos”. The performance will be repeated on Sunday, September 26, in the same venue at the same time.

_Τhe Holy Metropolitanate of Messenia presents an anniversary music event with songs about 1821 in cooperation with the Music School of Kalamata, as well as a play by the children of the Youth Companies of the Holy Metropolitanate of Messenia under the title “The Kiss” by Mihail Mitsakis referring to the legendary tradition of the kiss of Ibrahim on the dead body of Papaflessas.
Within the framework of this event, prizes will be awarded to the pupils who took part in the Pan-Messenian Contest of Essay-writing, Poetry, Drama and Works of digital creation (video, mobility-enhanced robotics, music creation by digital means) on the subject “Ecclesiastical Personalities of the Fight in Messenia: Metropolitan Chryssanthos Pagonis of Monemvassia and Kalamata, Bishop Gregorios Bistis of Koroni, and Bishop Gregorios Papatheodorou of Methoni”, in cooperation with the Directorate of Secondary Education of Messenia.

_The Holy Metropolitanate of Syros will honour the memory of Neomartyr Manuel the Cretan who lived on the island of Mykonos. In the Holy Cathedral of Zoodochos Peghe (the Life-giving Spring) of Mykonos an Archieratical Joint Liturgy will be performed with Most Rev. Metropolitan Ioel of Edessa, Pella and Almopia officiating in his capacity of representative of the Holy Synod, who will also read out the Synodic Message, and the local Most Rev. Metropolitan Dorotheos of Syros, Tenos, Andros, Kea, Melos, Delos, and Mykonos co-officiating. A Memorial Service will be performed in memory of Mado Mavroghenous and the other Mykonian fighters of the National Uprising.

_In the Holy Monastery of Myrtidia the Holy Metropolitanate of Kythera and Antikythera will hold an Archieratical Joint Liturgy and a Solemn Doxology in honour of the anniversary of the Greek Revolution, with the local mayor delivering a speech.

_In the courtyard of the Holy Cathedral of the Dormition of the Theotokos on the ilsnad of Aeghina at 19h30 the Holy Metropolitanate of Hydra, Spetses and Aeghina organises a Scholarly One-day Conference on the subject “The contribution of the Church in Aeghina to the Revolution of 1821”, with Greek academics and scholars delivering papers and Very Rev. Archinadrite Nektarios Dardanos, Protosynkellos of the Holy Metropolitanate, coordinating the event to be followed by a concert of Byzantine Music.

_In the Holy Monastery of Platytera the Holy Metropolitanate of Kerkyra, Paxoi and the Isles beyond Sea together with the Region of the Ionian Islands, the Municipality of Central Kerkyra (Corfu), the Ionian University, the Regional Directorate of Education of the Ionian Islands, the Association of Medical Doctors and Surgeons of Kerkyra, the Gallery of Kerkyra, the Flanghineion Cultural Centre and the Association of the Choirs of Kerkyra jointly organise a two-day programme of events in memory of and honour to the great child of Kerkyra, Ioannis Capodistrias.
Specifically, on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at 19h, an event (panel discussion) will be held on the subject “How we honour 1821 in practice, how we honour Capodistrias”, with the participation of Greek artists, academics, and scientists, and will be followed by the presentation of an Ode to Ioannis Capodistrias, composed by Conductor Spyros Rouvas.
Monday, September 27 2021:

  • At 10 a.m. an Archieratical Memorial Service will be held for the completion of 190 years since the assassination of Ioannis Capodistrias, with the participation of the local educational community and the Choir of the Cathedral of Corfu.
  • At 19h an event (panel discussion) will be held on the subject “Standing before the third century of our national freedom. Thoughts and problematics”, with the participation of Greek academics, and will be coordinated by Father Themistocles Mourtzanos.

_On Monday, September 27, at 21h, a musical and theatrical performance will be presented in the Veakeion Municipal Theatre of Piraeus, under the title “Greeks : our history in songs and drama”. The event is organised by the Municipality of Piraeus under the auspices of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens and the Holy Metropolitanate of Nea Ionia, Philadelphia, Herakleion and Halkedon with the participation of a church drama workshop and the “N.P.” symphonic orchestra of youth.

The measures stipulated for the protection from the Coronavirus pandemic will be observed in all these events.
