On Sunday, February 28, 2021, at 7 p.m., the 11th meeting of “Spiritual Online Discussions” of the Holy Metropolitanate of Monemvassia and Sparta will be carried out with a particularly interesting range of topics.

Specifically, in cooperation with the Advisory Committee of the Holy Metropolitanate on the anniversary events for the bicentenary of the Revolution of 1821 a triple presentation will be carried out on the general topic: “Heroes of Faith and Fatherland – as many reasons to be proud of our land”.

The anniversary of the completion of 200 years since the beginning of the Greek Revolution gives rise to a discussion of the Neomartyrs, the national martyrs, and the contribution of the clergy to it, without omitting particular references to the Southern Peloponnese.

In the online event, which our Most Rev. Metropolitan Eustathios will address, the following speakers will deliver papers:

  • Mr Andreas Moratos, Secretary General of the Association of Literature Teachers of Laconia, on the subject “The phenomenon of Neomartyrs”;
  • Mr Nicolaos Zacharakis, M.Sc. in Folklore, on the subject “The clergy in the Struggle of the National Uprising: Martyrs, Fighters and Pioneers”;
  • Mr Demetrios Vahaviolos, Ph.D. in Byzantine History, on the subject : “Neophytos of Lacædemonia (1771-1777) – Mosaic pieces out of the biography of a least known martyr hierarch of the late 18th century”.

A discussion will follow the papers.
