Theme park for the promotion of the heroes of 1821 in the Holy Metropolitanate of Siderokastron

An evening Divine Liturgy was performed in the Holy Church of Aghia Paraskevi of Siderokastron on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, by the Most Rev. Metropolitan Makarios of Siderokastron.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy a memorial prayer was sung in honour of the great hero of the Revolution Theodoros Kolokotronis on the occasion of the completion of 178 years since his death on February 4, 1843.

This memorial service for the Chief General Theodoros Kolokotronis is inscribed in the framework of the events organized by the Holy Metropolitanate of Siderokastron in honour of the bicentenary of the Greek Revolution.

The importance of the struggles of all those leading figures of the Revolution was highlighted by the Most Rev. Metropolitan in a brief address, in which he stated that “heroes such as Kolokotronis marked their time and this is why they managed to engrave themselves on the memory of men as models of readiness for the fight, and of love of the fatherland”. Moreover, he expressed his amazement and admiration at the 3-D theme park of heroes set up with passion and good taste and dominating the courtyard of the church.

The theme park, which it is possible to visit daily, sheds a new light upon the heroes of 1821 and illustrates their struggles in an original manner, so as to cultivate the relevant problematics in the minds of the young and the elderly, in order for them to ponder on the significance and importance of the Greek Revolution and the people who, inspired by the ideals of the love of the country and self-abnegation, offered us the precious gift of freedom.
