Timetable of events: 10/04 – 11/04/2021

This week, too, the events of the Holy Metropolitanates of the Church of Greece in honour of the bicentenary of the outset of the Greek Revolution are continued.

Specifically, on Saturday, April 10, 2021, the Holy Archdiocese of Athens will honour the memory of Patriarch Gregorios V, Holy Martyr of the Nation, was executed by hanging on April 10, 1821 (Easter Sunday), at the order of the Sultan, in Constantinople.  In the morning, an Archieratical Divine Liturgy will be performed to commemorate the Saint, in the presence of His Beatitude Ieronymos II, Archbishop of Athens, in the Holy Cathedral of Athens, where the holy relics of the Patriarch are preserved.

On the same day, the memory of Patriarch Gregorios V, Holy Martyr of the Nation, will be honoured in his native village, Dimitsana. The Holy Metropolitanate of Gortyna and Megalopolis will perform a Divine Liturgy in the church called “the Catacomb”, inside the house where Saint Gregorios V was born. At 19h00 of Saturday a one-day Conference will take place in memory of the National Martyr with the participation of representatives of the Holy Metropolitanate, Local Government, and experts. The Conference will be conducted online and broadcast from the website of the Holy Metropolitanate: www.imgortmeg.gr.

The Holy Metropolitanate of Zakynthos will organize an online lecture by Most Rev. Metropolitan Dionysios IV of Zakynthos on the subject: “The monastic of the Strophades Islands Saint Gregorios V. From Dimitsana and the Monastery of Strophades in the waters of the Bosphorus”. The lecture will be broadcast at 20h00 from the website of the Holy Metropolitanate: www.imzante.gr.

The Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis at 18h00 will organize an event, which will take place in Ypati, a town of martyrs. On the occasion of the feast of Saint Gregorios of New Patras, who was slaughtered inside the Holy Cathedral of Saint Nikolaos of Ypati by the Turks in 1711, an online event will take place on the subject of “The sacrifice of the Holy Clergy for Faith and Fatherland” on the eve of the Akathist. On Sunday, April 11, 2021, the Holy Metropolitanate of Zakynthos will perform an Archieratical Divine Liturgy in the Holy Monastery of the Strophades Islands and Saint Dionysios in the town of Zakynthos, in memory of Patriarch Saint Gregorios V, with Most Rev. Metropolitan Dionysios of Zakynthos officiating.
