Through the “Truly” Cultural Centre of Discourse, the Holy Metropolitanate of Zakynthos deposes its spiritual contribution to the anniversary events in honour of the bicentenary of the National Uprising of 1821.

This framework includes a series of public lectures to be delivered online due to the pandemic-related restrictions worldwide. Even in this manner, though, it is worth adding the contribution of the local Church to the collective historical memory of our fellow Greeks, indeed by heeding Goethe’s advice, that “the people which forgets its history is condemned to relive it”.

The lectures planned are eight and will be gradually uploaded on YouTube in the course of March and April, effective from March 15, 2021 with a public lecture by Most Rev. Metropolitan Dionysios of Zakynthos, under whose blessing the whole endeavour is placed. The staff of the Metropolitanate plan to launch further public lectures after Easter and within the anniversary year.

It is worth noting that all public lectures will be marked by an original spot, as their signal, produced by Mr Ioannis Porphyrios Capodistrias, museologist, production editor and special collaborator of “Truly”.
