With the indispensable healthcare measures fully observed, the events planned by the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece are continued in its local Holy Metropolitanates, so that the Fighters of 1821 may be duly honoured.

Specifically, on Thursday, January 21, 2021, the Holy Metropolitanate of Halkis will honour the memory of the National Fighter Metropolitan Neophytos Adam by means of a Solemn Archieratical Liturgy and a Memorial Service in his place of birth, the village Phylla of Halkis, presided over by the Most Rev. Metropolitan Chryssostomos of Halkis.

On Sunday, January 24, 2021, a Doxology will be performed in the Holy Metropolitan Church of Aeghina by the Very Rev. Archimandrite Father Nektarios Dardanos, Protosynkellos of the Holy Metropolitanate of Hydra, Spetses and Aeghina, representing the Most Rev. Metropolitan Ephraim, for the celebration of the arrival of Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias to the first capital of Greece (i.e. the island of Aeghina) in January of 1828. The formal oration for the day will be delivered by Mr Alexandros Papadopoulos, former Minister, and subsequently a Trisagion will be performed before the statue of Kapodistrias on the waterfront of the island.

On Monday, January 25, 2021, an Archieratical Divine Liturgy will be performed by the Most Rev. Metropolitan Chryssostomos of Halkis in the Holy Church of the Life-Giving Spring (Zoodohos Pighi, in Greek) of the Orphanage, in memory of his distant predecessor, Archbishop Gregorios Arghyrokastritis of Evripos, who was a prominent member of the “Society of Friends” (Philiki Etairia, in Greek) and a person eminently involved in the area during the period of the servitude and Revοlution.

Finally, the “Panhellenic School Competition” of the Holy Metropolitanate of Nea Krini and Kalamaria is still in progress, on the topic of “200 Years since the Greek Revolution – Honouring the Heroes of 1821”. It is a competition of painting for pupils of primary schools, and poetry, prose, video creation and music composition for high-school students.
