On the occasion of the celebration of the bicentenary of the outbreak of the Greek Revolution, continuing the implementation of the anniversary events planned, on Saturday, May 29, 2021, at 1800h the Holy Metropolitanate of Messenia presents a scholarly one-day conference as planned, on the topic of “What Orthodox Monasticism offered to the education and culture of the Nation, with particular emphasis on Messenia”.

Two experts will speak of the specific topic:

a) Mr Nikolaos Tombros, Assistant Professor of Political History in the Military Academy of the Evelpids (Cadets), on the subject “The contribution of the Monasteries of Greece, and of those of Messenia in particular, to the 1821 Revolution”;

and b) Mr Ioannis Bougas, theologian, Ph.D. in Contemporary Greek History and Philosophy, on the subject “What the Monasteries of Messenia offered to the learning of the Greeks during the 1821 Revolution and after it”.

Because of the restrictive measures, the one-day conference will be broadcast online from the YouTube channel of the Holy Metropolitanate under the title: Holy Metropolitanate of Messenia – Celebration of 200 years.
