In a celebratory ambiance the Holy Metropolitanate of Siderokastron launched its planned events in honour of the bicentenary of the Revolution of National Regeneration.

Specifically, in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Saint George an Archieratical Divine Liturgy and a Memorial Service were performed in honour of all those fallen for Faith and Country as well as of the Bishops who ministered the Holy Metropolitanate of Siderokastron with love of God during all the difficult historical periods, of both the Turkish and the Bulgarian Rule, and above all the Most Rev. Metropolitan Makarios of Siderokastron.

As the Most Rev. Metropolitan emphasized in his sermon, “all those important ecclesiastical men kept the torch of faith lit and inspired their people with love of the country, desire of freedom and independence. This was why, already from the outset of its celebrations, the Metropolitanate chose to honour those spiritual leaders of the area in an exceptional and brilliant manner, and indeed on a working day, Friday, January 29, 2021, so that a delegation of students from each school accompanied by their teachers may be able to attend”.

The events of the Metropolitanate will also be continued in February, through a Painting Competition on the subject “Our heroes inspire us”, organized by the Holy Church of Saint Paraskevi of Siderokastron and addressed to children of 6-12 years of age.

By means of the Competition, children will have the opportunity to study the personalities of the Heroes of 1821, think about their Fights, ponder on the messages sent out by those fights to the present time, and thus create their works.

On the verso of each work, which should be submitted to the Principals of the schools by February 12, the name, the surname, and the age of the child should be inscribed, as well as the school of attendance and a telephone number of a parent.
