This week too the events of the Holy Metropolitanates of the Church of Greece for the anniversary of the 200 years since the outset of the Revolution of 1821 are continued, with the measures for protection from the coronavirus observed at all times.

Specifically, from 4 to 30 June, the Holy Metropolitanate of Veroia, Naoussa and Campania dedicates many events of this year’s 27th Pavleia” to the anniversary of 1821. The Pavleia are culminated with worship events in honour of Apostle Paul and will last for 4 weeks (June 4-30).

Within this framework, on Monday, June 7, 2021 and at 10h30 a.m. a one-day conference for priests will take place on the topic “What the Holy Clergy offered to the Struggles of the Nation” (holy church of Saint Loukas – Holy Monastery of the All-Holy Virgin of Dovra).

The Holy Metropolitanate of Hios, Psara and Oinoussai under the auspices of the Holy Synod organizes a Scholarly Conference on the topic: “The Struggle of 1821 at sea and the successes of the Greek seamen and fire ship captains”, which will be carried out and attended online, on the zoom  platform, through the following connection coordinates :

On Sunday, June 6:

The Holy Metropolitanate of Kastoria will honour the Kastorian Neomartyrs and Ethnomartyrs. Most Rev. Metropolitan David of Grevena in his capacity of Locum Tenens will perform the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Cathedral of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Kastoria and subsequently a Memorial Service for Ioannis and Panaghiotis Emmanuel brothers, Kastorian associates of Rigas Velestinlis, who were put to death by the Turks in June of 1798. Moreover, he will read out the Act of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for the Ranking Among Saints of the Kastorian Neomartyrs.

In cooperation with the Region of Ionian Islands and the Municipality of Argostolion, the Holy Metropolitanate of Cephalonia will honour the memory of the Holy Ethnomartyr Patriarch Gregorios V, whose coffin is kept in the village of Domata of Cephalonia, homeland of Admiral N. Sklavos. Most Rev. Metropolitan Demetrios of Cephalonia will officiate at the Archieratical Divine Liturgy in the holy church of the Presentation of the Mother of God in the village of Domata and will perform a Memorial Service for Admiral Nikolaos Sklavos, who transferred the holy relic to Odessa, after it was thrown by the Turks to the Bosphorus. Addresses will follow by representatives of the Parliament and the local authorities, as well as a public lecture of historical content.

Under the auspices of the Holy Synod, at 17h, the Holy Metropolitanate of Florina, Prespes and Eordaia will organize a one-day Scholarly Conference in the holy church of Saints Constantine and Helen in Amyntaio on the topic “Struggles and Sacrifices in Macedonia for the holy faith in Christ and the freedom of the fatherland. Local Neomartyrs, Heroes and Fighters of the Greek Revolution of 1821”. A greeting of His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece will be read out and papers will be delivered by the following speakers: Most Rev. Metropolitan Ioustinos of Nea Krini and Kalamaris, Archimandrite Nikephoros Manadis, Archimandrite Sevastianos Topalis, Archimandrite Eirinaios Hadziephraimidis, Mr Elias Moglenidis, Mr Demetrios Rizos, Mr Ioannis Papalazarou. Mr Demetrios Papadopoulos will be the coordinator of the event. The soirée will end with a closing address by Most Rev. Metropolitan Theocletos of Florina, Prespes and Eordaia.
