Within the framework of the Synodic and peripheral events of the Church of Greece for the bicentenary of the beginning of the Greek Revolution of 1821, the Holy Metropolitanate of Edessa, Pella and Almopia would like to announce that

  • on October 12, 2021, at 18h, a Solemn Vespers will be performed;
  • on October 13, 2021, at 7h30 a Matins and a Solemn Divine Liturgy will be performed in the holy church of Saint Chryssi in the village of the same name in Almopia, where the Saint was born and martyred in 1795;
  • on October 31, 2021, at 18h30, in the Cultural Centre of the Municipality of Pella, in the town of Ghiannitsa, an event will be held on the subject “Saint Chryssi the Neomartyr and what the Neomartyrs offered to the freedom of the nation” in the presence of Most Rev. Metropolitan Ioel of Edessa, Pella and Almopia.

The event includes :

  • hymns dedicated to the Saint and the holy Neomartyrs honoured, to be chanted by the Byzantine Choir of the School of Byzantine Music of the Holy Metropolitanate;
  • traditional songs by the “EN-EITE” Choir of the Parish of Saint George of Ghiannitsa;
  • a public lecture on the subject “Saint Chryssi the Neomartyr and what the Neomartyrs offered to the freedom of the nation” to be delivered by Protopresbyter Eleftherios Haralambidis, Ph.D. Th., Press Officer of the Holy Metropolitanate;
  • an extract of a film on the subject of the martyrdom of Saint Chryssi, produced by the drama group of the Parish of the Dormition of Theotokos of Neohorio in Almopia, of which you may wish to watch a trailer here.
