This week too the Synodic and peripheral events of the Church of Greece in honour of the bicentenary of the outset of the 1821 Greek Revolution are continued.

Specifically:

Friday, July 23
The Holy Metropolitanate of Monemvassia and Sparta will honour the anniversary of the liberation of Monemvassia (July 23, 1821). Most Rev. Metropolitan Eustathios of Monemvassia and Sparta will officiate in a Divine Liturgy in the holy church of Panaghia Myrtidiotissa of Monemvassia and will subsequently perform a Doxology. A solemn address will be delivered on the occasion.

Saturday, July 24
In cooperation with the Region of Sterea Hellas, in the afternoon the Holy Metropolitanate of Phokis will organise a concert with a popular oratorio on the subject of The Revolution in Roumeli, the 1821 Regeneration, in the courtyard of the Holy Monastery of the Prophet Elijah of Parnassis.

Sunday, July 25
The Holy Metropolitanate of Phokis an Archieratical Divine Liturgy will be carried out, with our Chief Shepherd, Most Rev. Metropolitan Theoktistos of Phokis officiating, in the Holy Monastery of the Prophet Elijah of Parnassis, whence the 1821 Revolution in Roumeli started. Following the Divine Liturgy an Archieratical Memorial Service will follow in honour of the late Bishop Isaiah of Salona and the solemn address of the day will be delivered by Sister Ioanna of the said Holy Monastery. It is worth noting that Bishop Isaiah of Salona was the first bishop to fall fighting during the Revolution of 1821.

The Holy Metropolitanate of Monemvassia and Sparta will honour the memory of the fighter Bishop Theodoretos II of Vresthena. Most Rev. Metropolitan Eustathios will perform a Divine Liturgy and a Memorial Service in the holy church of the Nativity of the Theotokos in the town of Vresthena. A public lecture on what Theodoretos of Vresthena offered to the Greek Revolution will be delivered and the dignitaries attending will lay wreaths before the bust of the “Chieftain Bishop” in the courtyard of the church.

The Holy Metropolitanate of Corinth will honour those who fought and fell during the victorious battle of Dervenakia (July 26, 18211). Most Rev. Metropolitan Dionysios of Corinth will perform a Trisaghion at 11 a.m. in the holy church of Saint Sostis in Dervenakia. Subsequently wreaths will be laid before the statue of Theodoros Kolokotronis and a public lecture of historical content will be delivered.

At 11 a.m. the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis will organise an anniversary event in the holy church of Saint Paraskevi in Nea Ambliani of Lamia on the topic “Philhellenism, philhellenic movements in Europe”. The event will be broadcast from the website of the Holy Metropolitanate.

At noon, in cooperation with the Municipaliti of Tempi the Holy Metropolitanate of Larissa and Tyrnavos will carry out a Conference in the courtyard of the Maniareios School of Ampelakia on the topic of the contribution of Ampelakia and its historical guild to the educational endeavour of the enslaved Greeks, with relevant public lectures to be delivered by specialised scholars.

Monday, July 26
At 11 a.m. the Holy Metropolitanate of Phthiotis will organise an anniversary event in the holy church of Saint Paraskevi on the topic “The delineation of the borders of the liberated Greek State”. The event will be broadcast online from the website of the Holy Metropolitanate.
